Scary apps.

I just wanted to quickly note that I have a bunch of toddler appropriate apps on my iPhone for Aidan. They are all fun and meant for learning. Mine and his favorite is the First Words: (Vehicles, Animals, etc).
I have this other one that he likes (Tozzle), but whenever the cow, pig or horse come up to be moved across the screen, he hands it to me and runs and hides momentarily. It’s the funniest thing!
I think he may be scared of those animals, especially the pig.
I don’t know why, though.

Fun in the Sun.

or…Sun your buns. I used to have a couple of t-shirts that read that. *giggle* Ahhhh, the 80s.

Yesterday we bought Aidan a nice size pool at Target for only $15. It is going to be about 4 feet by 8 feet long and perfectly deep for a kid his age. He can stand in it and be above the water, yet be able to splash around and swim when he learns.

Mike took him and Alex to the lake house for Father’s Day and Aidan did not want to leave!! He especially did not want to get out of the pool. I had seen the ad in Target’s paper this week and decided I couldn’t pass that up. He needs more places to play and things to do in his own back yard.

Next, we will be making him a sandbox. I am so excited!

Buwd is a word.

Since my last post, Aidan has been saying sooo many words. Or, I’ve been recognizing them at least. There are some phrases he often says over and over that I can’t understand and I don’t know what he’s talking about even though he points.

At least he doesn’t get frustrated about it because that is not a good thing according to baby.com.

He is also stopping when he pees and grabs at his crotch. He also hsa been going and hiding in certain areas when he’s taking a dump. Now if I could just get him to go on his potty.

He was hungry and wanted his dinner!

As I was finishing up spaghetti tonight, it happened.

Aidan said spaghetti!! I am so tickled because of two reasons:

  • It is my favorite meal and,
  • I realized what he was saying!

Sometimes it takes some thinking over for me to get what he is saying, but not tonight.

He said it clear as day: “puh geh-geh”

I love  it!!!!!

Menu for a 2 year old.

Since posting the menu for a 1 year old was a big hit, I will post one for a 2 year old as well! This is what my son eats on a regular basis.

Breakfast:

3/4 cup of milk  (1/4 of it in cereal)

1/4 cup of dry cereal

1/2 banana

Snack:

2 to 3 graham crackers

1/2 cup of orange juice

Lunch:

1/2 turkey sandwich on whole wheat bread

1/4 cup green beans

1/4 cup carrots

1/4 cup sliced peaches

1/2 cup of milk

Snack:

Small muffin

1/2 cup of milk

Dinner:

1 oz. baked chicken

1/4 cup mashed potatoes

1/4 cup cooked broccoli

1 whole wheat roll

1/2 cup of milk

Instead of milk products, I might incorporate cheese or yogurt.  I also feed him oatmeal for breakfast. I haven’t been using whole wheat for sandwiches and I know I need to. Aidan has lost interest in vegetables that he once loved. I don’t think it has anything to do with giving him more sweets and that ruining it for him. I think it’s just another phase because we hardly ever give him sweets other than his juice.

This list came from a pamphlet I received that is from the TN. Dept. of Health.

Even though your songs blare through my neighborhood, we appreciate you.

Along with going to the park every week, we have commited ourselves to one more treat every week: icees. From Dray.

You know those annoying people who drive in vans and sell ice cream? Yeah, we have that. We also have the guy who drives through in his little pickup truck selling icees. He plays the same music of the kid yelling “Hello!?” and the quacking duck to lure in people of all ages.

Dear Dray,

You know, even though it gets old hearing you drive around the 10 surrounding neighborhoods and even though my son’s poop turns crazy shades of color, we still love you.  It’s a joyous sound hearing you drive near. You know why? Because that means when you’re out, it’s warm.

And we love warm weather.

Sincerely,

Us

Here Aidan is feeding me ice chunks from his raspberry icee.

New day, new diapers.

Since my diaper dilemma (which I did not post here, but on my personal site), I have found some diapers that work very well. I am not sure if they are Target’s new brand of diapers or what, but I love them!

They are called Up & Up and are cute as well as functional. They have cute polka dots as well. :) If you are looking to replace the White Cloud brand that was discontinued from Walmart, these seem like an excellent replacement!!

I have a question for you, Clorox.

Exactly how are you supposed to soak bathtub toys in bleach water when they are meant to float??

I’ve seen you soak toys in your commercial, but what is the trick for bathtub toys? Besides standing there and holding the toys underwater.

Aidan oh Aidan..

I haven’t really updated in a while. We have made it a regular routine to go to the park or to at least be outside since Spring is here and it’s now warm. (thank be-jesus)

I’ve actually been trying to get back into the role of mother and wife instead of person-sitting-on-the-computer. I really wish I could cut back my hours at work so that I can be home more, but I just can’t afford the paycut that would come with it. I am currently trying to push my new website/blog design business and hope that in the next year it picks up for me enough that I can go PRN (and eventually quit and work from home).

But in the meantime, I’m doing what I can. And I don’t want to miss out on my son’s life. So we’ve enjoyed many days at the park so far and I love it. I don’t have any new pictures that are ready to post, but I will soon.

And I will try to update as often as possible.

Aidan and Sadie’s play date

Today we went to visit Sorayah, Sadie and Emmaline. We had a great time catching up and watching the kids play with nearly every toy Sadie owns!! lol And come to think of it now, we should have helped pick them up before we left. Sorayah, you have to forgive me as I’m new to the whole playdate thing. Sadie and one other little boy are the only two near his age that he has ever played with.

So the whole time we were there I really felt worried about whether Aidan would try to hit Sadie or just be aggressive with her. He isn’t normally a violent child or anything, it’s just that he doesn’t interact with any kids his age. I know we need to subject him to more toddlers for the sake of socialization skills, but we just don’t have any friends close who have toddlers. And I’m always worried about other kids at the park being snotty or …aggressive… with him. I know that he is a kid – and a boy at that – and they are in the learning process, but I just don’t want him to be one of those bullies or mean kids that doesn’t like to share. So I was on edge worrying if he was going to try and do something not so nice. And there were a couple of times that he wasn’t so nice. I think it’s because when he has a toy he is attatched to, he doesn’t want to detach from it for no reason. And if you try to get him to give it up, he pitches a fit. Also, if it’s a toy he is really enjoying, he wants to play with it until he decides he’s over it.

Now I know that boys are generally less sensitive and more physical during playtime and I try to keep that in mind, but it just sucks when your kid smacks another kid younger than him. And a girl at that. I really do need to expose him to more kids his age. I wish we could afford daycare or a babysitter with other kids.

Overall he behaved really well. He actually did share his “on touch with” toy with Sadie as I saw him give it to her once. :) It was a new environment with new toys and he explored every bit of it. It really didn’t take him long to warm up and Sadie was the perfect host. She let Aidan play with any toy he wanted and from what Sorayah says, this is not something she is likely to do.

What was great was the two times Aidan said a couple of words I’ve never really heard him say, much less lable something with. He picked up Sadie’s palstic eggplant and started to hand it to Sorayah and said, “puwple.” I was astonished along with Sorayah. Then later on he was pointing at something on a toy and said, “bue.” He was saying blue. I am very impressed. Too bad he won’t let mama in on his knowledge while at home.

And something I was also impressed with were some of the toys Sadie had. She had some cute wooden toys from Target that would velcro together and kids could pretend to cut them apart. She had loaves of bread, eggs and Aidan’s favorite: the pizza! I decided since he liked them so much, we stopped on the way home and bought him some even though they were in the girl aisle. They just didn’t have the pizza at all. :( The only bad thing is that they are a little pricey, but worth it since they are wood and really good quality. Plus, he loves them so how can you argue with that??

I hope that the next time I can learn to relax and just let kids be kids. Now that Sorayah is closer, we will have more opportunities!
