1st day of Kindergarten!!!

Wow, has it been a very long time since I updated. This summer we moved from Tennessee to Florida and our son started kindergarten today. Such a big boy now!!

October 2010 doctor visit

I took Aidan to get his flu shot – and to check to make sure he has all of his vaccines – since I was trying to prepare for getting him into school.

They did a regular check-up on him and told me he is in the 75th percentile for height and weight. My boy is getting to be less like most: he’s so tall! He is 3 feet and 4 inches tall and he weighs 39lbs. I was always such a skinny child and it seems as though he’s following in my footsteps. I remember when I had one of those IDs made by the KPD when I was 7 and I only weighed 47lbs. I was 96lbs up until I was about 16 years old.

Skinny Wendy.

Anyways. So we did not get our application in in time for Aidan to start school this year. It will be next fall at the earliest. ๐Ÿ˜ฆ I’m really disappointed, but that just means I have more time to spend with him and educate him myself. I like to take credit for what he has learned already and not somebody else. (Well, hubs and I)

I have toyed with the thought of homeschooling, but I want him to be able to have long hours of spending time with his peers. That’s important to me. And I want to be able to have time for myself to work from home.

All-in-all, his checkup went well. He had to get 3 shots and blood drawn. He cried for a few minutes then we had McDonald’s for lunch.

Kiddo photog

Last week I decided to buy my son a Vtech Kiddizoom after I saw Sarcastic Mom post a tweet about her son having one. I remembered my nephew having something like it when he was younger. I am all about offering my child the resources to help fuel his artistic side (if he has one, which I am convinced he does).

He seems to love it so far as he took over 200 photos within 30 minutes of getting it. I have yet to hook it up to the computer and look at the quality of photos, but so far it looks pretty decent. Decent enough for a $40 camera used by a 3 year old.

And since I haven’t really talked much about it, I wanted to write it down so Aidan can read this later. He is obsessed with Matchbox cars and HotWheels. And we don’t mind since they are only .97cents. ๐Ÿ™‚ That’s why he now has a LOT of them. I would guess around 70. My mother bought him about 30 or more for Christmas and we buy him one basically everytime we go to Walmart or Target….which is about twice a week. He will look at the car then turn the package so he can inspect the rear and the front end of the car. It’s the cutest thing! I’m not sure what he’s checking out, but it’s usually the dealbreaker.

Last night we got him a Delorean, which reminds me that we need to buy the Back to the Future Trilogy. I absolutely LOVE those movies and think Aidan would, too.

So that is where we are at.

Oh yeah, Aidan has been back at playing the X-box and he loves playing Halo, Flatout and Ty. It’s impressive how well he can maneuver around and use the controller and quickly at that! I know a lot of people may gasp at the idea of me letting my 3 year old child play video games – one like Halo, especially – but he loves it and he is learning hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills. We also have a V-tech system that is for learning, but after using the X-box graphics, he is not impressed. He is not aggressive as a result. If he does start to show signs, then it will stop. His only problem is he gets frustrated at the difficulty of some parts, but that’s usually because he has put it on a hard level.

All is well with is. What’s going on with you?

December of 2009

Well, a lot of changes have come our way….for the better. Life does not seem like a roller coaster ride anymore. I feel pretty leveled out and hope that it sticks. I don’t need anymore of what we’ve had for the past two years.

Aidan is getting big. I’m not sure how big he is, but I plan to find out tonight. He’s somewhere around 39″ (3′ 3″)and 32lbs.

He uses sentences, but not very often. He still likes to use the two word forms of communication: “Play dat.” I am worried that he might be falling behind as far as his language skills go, but I’m not too worried about it as he has always surprised all of a sudden. For instance, tomorrow he may start speaking in complete sentences for good. Who knows?? I’m not going to pressure him into doing anything. We still go through his ABCs and try to sing songs together, but he just kind of blurts out whatever…or just random words in the song. He loves The Ramones, BTW….especially “I Wanna Be Sedated.”

Potty training.

He still shows no interest in it, but he has been wanting to dress himself a lot more. He even puts his shoes on himself.

We let him have the XBox back last week to see how he would handle it. It’s almost like he didn’t miss a beat. He still knows how to maneuver the joysticks and how to navigate through the menu to get to where he needs. Hopefully we can find some decent toddler games for him. I will not let him become addicted to it, to the point that he wants to spend ever waking moment on it. It will be his fun time.

So, there’s your update. I’ll be back later with height and weight.

Buwd is a word.

Since my last post, Aidan has been saying sooo many words. Or, I’ve been recognizing them at least. There are some phrases he often says over and over that I can’t understand and I don’t know what he’s talking about even though he points.

At least he doesn’t get frustrated about it because that is not a good thing according to baby.com.

He is also stopping when he pees and grabs at his crotch. He also hsa been going and hiding in certain areas when he’s taking a dump. Now if I could just get him to go on his potty.

My (almost) terrible two.

In 13 days, my son will be 2 years old. God, I can’t believe it!! Where has the time gone?? Oh yeah, it’s been focused on bills and stressing out about them.

I have decided – I just have to let my husband in on my ideas – that on his 2nd birthday we are not giving him a paci anymore and I am going to put together his big boy bed!! We’ll have to buy a gate for his door so that when he does wake up, he is restricted to roaming about his bedroom only.

I am not as nervous about this idea as I was before since my mother mentioned putting up a gate. Why didn’t I think of this??
